• Alicyn Roy,Timing it takes to be an accomplished Equestrian

If there is an overused question often heard by riding instructions, it would be: “how long before I learn how to ride?” While your instructor can give a rough idea on how long it will take you to learn how to ride, it really depends on your passion, your time allotted for learning and your future plans.

Typically, adults can achieve competent basic riding skills for a period of 6 months. But even then, it really depends on how much time you devote to training and how your body can acclimate to it. For instance, spending the whole day on the saddle for days can take its toll on your body so speeding up your learning process is never a good idea.

Other adults have taken two lessons per month and although the progress might not be as fast as others would want it to go, it’s still progressive enough to learn how to properly ride a horse without sliding back down.

To become an accomplished equestrian or someone who would be entrusted with a horse for competitions, it would take months, or even years, of hard work and dedication. It takes more than learning how to ride.

To be an accomplished equestrian, you need to know about horse life more than the average equestrian. That includes learning how to take care of your horse, learning the right techniques in riding a horse and knowing when your horse needs special attention.

So that age-old question about the timing it takes to be an accomplished equestrian? It really depends on you and how much effort you’re willing to put in.
